A Vocation… not just a Job.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” -Psalm 32:8

Teaching is one of sixteen recognized gifts described by the apostle Paul that is given to believers by the Holy Spirit to assist in God’s plan for building His church (1 Corinthians 12:1-31).

James 3:1 states that teachers will be held to a higher standard than others, which is likely because a teacher’s job is to shape the mind and character of the student.  After all, teaching has no societal benefit other than to assist the learner towards becoming a more knowledgeable, respectable or skilled person.  Although most teachers begin our careers with the desire to be change agents, ask us what we love about our “job” years later and you will likely get a laundry list of apathetic responses and resigned sighs–not because we are disillusioned with our work, but rather that there is little to no reward anymore for the energy we put into it.

Teaching, for most of us, is a passion that often doesn’t pay what it’s worth; there is a huge discrepancy in the value vs. economic advantage for our work despite the fact that very few teachers claim to “...do it for the fame or the money” *smirk*.  Uninvolved or meddlesome parents, entitled or behaviorally-challenged students, unprecedented amounts of school shootings, “politically correct” agendas, DEI mandates, standardized testing, bloated and ineffective curriculums that change every year, tedious amounts of grading, lesson planning and professional development requirements with little (if any!) support, as well as administrative policies that don’t often work in an individual classroom setting have made our profession, well, … undesirable.

The King’s Academy Difference.

Not only do we want to change the paradigm for our students, but we want to be unique in the support of our teaching staff as well.

At King’s Academy, teachers will be afforded the ability to work in an environment that not only aligns with their faith background and belief system, but also understands their unique blend of family circumstances.

Gone are the days where teachers are required to all be at work at the same time or even for the same amount of hours.  Gone are the days of solo teaching more than 10 students at a time.  Gone are the days of regimented curriculum requirements with no teacher support.  (You get the picture)...

What makes this possible?  Well, as an educator myself with over twenty years working with students in various capacities, I could never seem to find the place in which my skills, personality, teaching philosophy, and experience aligned.  After years of pouring my heart and soul into my work with little financial advantage and no teacher support only to end up frustrated and ready to quit the only thing that made me feel purposeful in this world, I decided it was time to make a change–I quit full time teaching, took a leap of faith, and trusted God with the outcome.

He, of course, did the rest.  The late Dr. Charles Stanley often stated “obey God, and leave all the consequences to Him.”  That is what I did, and that is our philosophy here at KA; we trust that God will provide everything we need to teach the way that He designed our children to learn.  In doing so, God will supply all the resources needed to ensure our teachers can truly live out their calling… as a vocation, not just a “job”.
